在《新教伦理与资本主义精神》和《儒教与道教》中,韦伯对于现代性在西方兴起的动因进行了深刻的分析,本文将其结论归纳为“韦伯命题”的双重含义——“新教伦理产生现代性”和“儒教文化阻碍现代性”。在“去帕森斯化韦伯”潮流的影响下,杜维明立足于东亚现代性的经验对“韦伯命题”进行批判,进而倡导多元现代性和文明对话。韦伯对于西方资本主义兴起的洞见依然是我们探讨现代性问题的重要理论参照,对于尚在生成之中的东亚现代性而言,西方现代性仍然是一个不可或缺的对话者。
In “The Protestant Ethic and Capitalism” and “Confucianism and Taoism”, Weber made a profound analysis of the motivation for the rise of modernity in the West. This paper concludes with the double meaning of “Weber’s proposition” “Protestant ethics produce modernity” and “Confucian culture impedes modernity.” Under the influence of “Parsonsization Weber”, Du Weiming criticized “Weber ’s proposition ” based on the experience of East Asia ’ s modernity so as to advocate multi - modernity and dialogue with civilizations. Weber’s insight into the rise of Western capitalism is still an important theoretical reference for us to explore the question of modernity. Western modernity is still an indispensable interlocutor for the still-emerging East Asian modernity.
