Taiwan’s China Steel Corporation has chosen to implement its expansion plan of 5 million tons per annum in Malaysia. In the past two years many Taiwanese companies have been forced to expand their production overseas for various reasons. Managers believe rising wages, lack of workforce, and deteriorating social and investment conditions are all factors in their decision to re-select the site. There are two other factors that Sinosteel has to set up factories overseas. The first is the trend of privatization. The second is the intensification of competition.
