The authors studied the hypoglycemic effects of several extracts of this plant on streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. The dried plant powder was extracted with water for 4 hours and freeze-dried to obtain a water extract (WE). Another equal amount of the plant dry powder was first defatted with n-hexane and then extracted with methanol for 48 hours. The methanol was recovered under reduced pressure and the residue was partitioned and extracted with carbon tetrachloride-80% methanol (1:1). The methanol-water phase evaporated to dryness.
