Chengdu is rich in groundwater resources. It is especially precious today in China and the world today. For thousands of years, rich groundwater resources have nourished the people in Chengdu for their livelihood and prosperity, and created the environmental element “well” of traditional architecture in Chengdu, affecting the spatial pattern of traditional architecture and bringing along some relevant customs. As the years change, lifestyle changes, “wells” have lost the use value of the year, but it records a period of life, witnessing a period of history. The proper preservation of wells in the traditional architecture of Chengdu is not only a true portrayal of the current year’s scene, but also a silent warning to people in protecting the groundwater resources of today.
