Objective To analyze the proportion of CD4 + CD25- effector T cells (Teff) and CD4 + CD25 + Foxp3 + regulatory T cells (Tregs) in peripheral blood of patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) and two groups of cell surface programmed death protein ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression. Methods Flow cytometry was used to detect the percentage of Teff and Treg in the peripheral blood of 49 patients with AS and 31 healthy controls and the expression of PD-L1 on both cell surfaces. Results Compared with the healthy control group, the proportion of Teff in the peripheral blood of active AS patients increased significantly and the Treg proportion did not change significantly. The percentage of PD-L1 + Teff in active AS patients was significantly lower than that in stable AS patients . The relative expression of PD-L1 in peripheral blood of patients with active AS was also significantly lower than that in patients with stable AS and healthy controls. The ratio of PD-L1 + Treg in peripheral blood and PD-L1 in Treg The levels were significantly lower than the healthy control group. Conclusion The percentage of Teff in the peripheral blood of active AS patients increases and the level of PD-L1 decreases.
