In 1957, the French writer Albert Camus won the Nobel Prize for Literature, and later he decided to dedicate his prize to his primary school teacher, Louis Germain. On January 4, 1960, Camus, 46, died in a car accident. Police found a 144-page unfinished novel in the wreckage of the car. The writer was writing a novel titled “The First Man,” whose protagonist is a primary schoolteacher named Mr. Bernard. In 1994, “The First Man” was published by Galima Press in Paris. Readers finally discovered that Mr. Bernard is in fact Louis Ehrmann. To a large extent, the novel has an autobiographical composition. The author’s devotion to Mr. Bernard’s character is the natural expression of Camus’s true feelings toward Louis Lehrmann. The publisher posts two letters between teachers and students as an appendix after the novel. From these two letters, the reader can confirm that the relationship between teacher and student in the novel, such as father and son, is not based on the fictionalization of Camus. Jacques, a small hero in the novel, a boy who lost his father, grew up in an illiterate family in Belkul, a poor district of Algiers, where his grandmother and uncle only speak a little French and his mom has Ear diseases, and even do not understand the movie, do not understand the radio, do not read Pictorial. As the author puts it, “Poverty is like a castle without a drawbridge.” However, there is an ordinary person, an elementary teacher of Bernard Bernard, who ignited the hope of life in the hearts of bitter Jacques, Mr. Na diligently educates his children, points out the direction for them, and gives them the courage to overcome difficulties. Here, he specifically translates the brilliant part of “The First Man” to readers .
