According to foreign reports, Japan’s Toshiba plans to invest 100 billion yen to build a 64-megabit DRAM production plant. The plant is scheduled to start in January 1995 and part of it will be put into production in 3996. It is speculated that the official popularity of 64-megabit DRAM will be after 1997, so the plant will still produce a portion of the 16-megabit DRAM currently in use at the beginning of production. The production capacity of the entire plant is converted to 16 million DRAMs, which yields 4.5 million units per month, which greatly exceeds the current total of Toshiba.
