The northern part of Thailand is a “Socio-cultural field” that is a mixture of ethnic groups, religions and languages in the south of the Southwest Silk Road network. Muslims in Yunnan Province are the earliest, most populous and most economically powerful Muslim groups in this social and cultural arena. This article carries out a brief ethnographic description and introduction of its social structure, cultural changes and their close ties with the economic and religious culture of Yunnan Province. It is found that its social structure and culture undergo continuous changes. In essence, this change is the inevitable result of the integration of ethnic cultures in the Southwest Silk Road network.
