Signal processing in scanning sensitive systems is mainly determined by two requirements: signal detection / peak extraction and multi-frame correlation. This article outlines and compares target pulse detection techniques and their peak extraction techniques. The pulse techniques discussed in this article include matched filters, least squares filters, partial wave filters, nonlinear filters and pattern recognition techniques. The problem of extracting peaks in indecipherable pulses is also discussed.
