现代一切商品都越来越讲求“包装”,图书亦不例外。图书的“包装”,除去“炒作”的含义外就是装帧。装帧是书籍的造型艺术表现,是对书的形态、用料和印制的工艺设计,也可以说是“梳妆打扮”。人们梳妆打扮和穿着衣饰讲究得体,即适合个人身份,突出个人气质,又要适应环境氛围,而且有实际效用。书籍的装帧亦然,首先要体现书本身的特性和风格,要以科学的编排、合理的结构形式和精美的图表,提供完美的视觉形象,保证查阅、欣赏(浏览)和收藏的最好条件。 一般说,百科全书装帧设计的基本原则与其他大型高档学术性书籍并无多大差别。本文仅讨论百科全书因本身性质和作用带来的一些装帧设计方面的特点,以及与百科全书编辑工作直接有关的一些特殊问题。
