With the development of acoustic materials, more and more acoustic products are available to meet the needs under different conditions. For example, a wide range of sound absorbers and mufflers, mounted on an indoor wall or in a pipe, has become an indispensable measure for noise control and sound comfort enhancement. Helmut V. Fuchs has long been working at the Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics in Stuttgart, Germany, where he served as director and deputy director of Applied Acoustics and Interior Acoustics. He has also been engaged in basic research in vibration and acoustics and aerodynamics at the German Institute of Aerospace Technology in Berlin and at Feferofen, the University of Southampton in the UK and Stanford University in the United States.
