一九七八年,戴敦邦先生为杨宪益、戴乃迭夫妇合译的英文版三卷本《红楼梦》画插图, 从此,他的《红楼梦》题材创作一发而不可收,与清末的改七芗、吴友如和当代的刘旦宅一起,成为中国最有名的《红楼梦》题材画家。二○○五年底,我又收到戴先生签名寄我的上海古籍版《戴敦邦绘红楼梦人物集》,打开一看,此书竟是先生的“红楼”封笔之作。
In 1978, Mr. Dai Dunbang illustrated the three volumes of the “Dream of Red Mansions”, translated by Yang Hsien-yi and Gladys. Since then, his theme of “Dream of Red Mansions” has never been accepted. , Wu Youru and contemporary Liu Danzhai together to become China’s most famous “Dream of Red Mansions” theme painter. By the end of 2005, I also received the signature of Mr. Dai to send me a copy of the Shanghai ancient books version of “Reading the Dream of Red Mansions” set by Dai Dunpai. This book was actually a seal made by Mr. “Red House”.
