Radial artery pulse records are often analyzed for diagnostic purposes. This analysis can be used to diagnose vascular disease. The recently proposed stress time derivative may be a sensitive indicator of cardiac ejection motion and valve function. Starr and his colleagues electronically differentiate pressure waves, but this approach adds noise levels. Using transducers and electrical methods, the authors are able to observe the high-frequency components with relatively little noise. The condition of the instrument has been reported otherwise.
