The degree of ordinary cement hydration is dictated by the presence of free water in the voids of the concrete. In fresh concrete, the water is saturated and fully hydrated. In response to this change in hydration kinetics, J.G. Cabrera et al. used thermobalance as a basic test to study the effects of five additives with different chemical compositions on various water-cement ratio slurries. The results showed that the superplasticizer only promoted the hydration rate in the initial stage, but had no effect on the long-term hydration properties of the cement. Used in this study
