矮秆笹锦由三井东压化学向日本农林水产省申请注册,并已受理。矮秆笹锦较目前在日本作为优质大米大面积栽培的但具有植株高、易倒伏、不稳产等缺点的笹锦要矮10厘米,穗数多,产量提高10%,粘性大,味美。矮秆笹锦大约是从4年前开始采用花药培养水稻原生质体而获得再生植物体。由于再生过程中易引起遗传基因突变,所以,根据这一点来进行变异株的选拔,而培育出了矮秆笹锦水稻新品种。另外,还培育出近次于笹锦的“日本晴”等几个水穑品种,考虑在数据整理好后,申请注册。
