LOS ANGELES - UAVs flying at about 500 feet per hour and flying at about 1,500 feet were intercepted by the Navy’s Advanced Infrared Chemical Laser (MIRACL) during the most recent weapon kill effectiveness test at the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. And destroyed. This is the first such experiment to destroy an airborne target with lasers and power from advanced infrared chemical lasers at a distance to validate the military’s use of the system in tactical environments.
