This new statement aims to provide comprehensive and up-to-date evidence-based recommendations for screening for asymptomatic carotid stenosis in the general population and selected patient subgroups. These recommendations are for the following groups: high risk individuals in the general population; patients undergoing open heart surgery (including coronary artery bypass surgery); peripheral vascular disease, abdominal aortic aneurysm and renal artery stenosis; head and neck cancer radiotherapy Patients with post-carotid endarterectomy or stenting; patients with retinal ischemic syndrome; patients with syncope, dizziness, dizziness or tinnitus; patients with a family history of vascular disease and hyperhomocysteinemia . These recommendations are made on the prevalence, expected benefits, and current guidelines from other professional organizations in selected populations.
