水势可以从能学范畴解释细胞间水的运动趋势和动力。所以用水势概念代替传统的吸水力概念已势在必行,目前几本教科书中解释水势不完全相合,应当统一在热力学第二定律的基础上,阐明水势与化学势的关系;水总是由自由能大的区域流向自由能小的区域,这种水的运动趋势就是水势:即一个体系中水与纯水间每单位克分子体积的水的自由能之差就是水势。在讲细胞水势组分时切忌新概念与传统概念混用,水势指标以高、低表示更为明确。
