《宠儿》的目的并非要讲叙一个暴力故事 ,因为宠儿不只是小说中的一个角色 ,她代表着过去 ,一个为了能真正忘却而不得不勇敢面对的过去。纵贯全书 ,矛盾处处体现 :记忆与忘却 ,生与死 ,有与无等等。笔者认为在这些矛盾所营造的紧张气氛中 ,莫里森最终把读者引向了统一 ,让读者在一个饱经心理创伤和身体磨难的民族身上看到了希望 ;同时也填补了莫里森本人认为的黑人男性作家作品中普遍缺乏的那种愉悦感。
The purpose of Beloved is not to tell a story of violence, for darling is not just a part of the novel, she represents the past, a past that had to be bravely faced in order to be truly forgotten. Throughout the book, contradictions reflect everywhere: memory and forget, life and death, with and without waiting.
