机械CAD的主要内容包括计算机造型及工程图纸绘制，分析及评价，工程数据库的建立与应用。机械CAD技术可使机械产品的设计周期缩短60％～80％，工艺周期缩短80％～90％，降低设计成本13％～30％。从CAD／CAM集成技术等五个方面阐述了80年代以来机械CAD技术的发展与突破，并从特征化的建模技术等七个方面说明了CAD／CAM技术发展的总趋势。
The main contents of mechanical CAD include computer modeling and drawing of engineering drawings, analysis and evaluation, construction and application of engineering database. Mechanical CAD technology can shorten the design cycle of mechanical products 60% to 80%, shorten the process cycle 80% to 90%, reduce the design cost of 13% to 30%. The development and breakthrough of mechanical CAD technology since the 1980s are described from five aspects of CAD / CAM integration technology. The general trend of CAD / CAM technology development is illustrated from seven aspects including characteristic modeling technology.
