Recent research shows that it is possible to achieve the same level of ductile iron castings as the ductile cast iron by using new technologies and combining them with practical experience. According to the standard, the mechanical properties and specific yield strength of ductile iron are comparable to those of ductile iron, but the yield strength of ductile iron with oil quenching is obviously higher than that of ductile iron. Based on the performance of more than 350 test bars produced under the same conditions, a wide range of investigations and studies have been conducted on ductile iron, air-cooled malleable iron and oil quenched malleable iron. The research results are compared with the existing international standards. Other properties such as fatigue strength and response characteristics to surface treatment such as induction hardening are also discussed. The costs of malleable cast iron were reviewed and evaluated and compared to other iron-based alloys. These latest developments in improving the yield and strength of castings have made malleable cast iron competitive with ductile iron at a fraction of the price of the highest grade cast iron that is comparable in quality to steel.
