我把封面设计的形式构成,归纳成数字的、几何的、物理的便于记忆的方法。这种按科学性、逻辑性和数学性来进行构成的设计,我把它称为冷设计。它的反面是热设计,是用绘画的思维方式和手法来进行的设计,是单纯依靠感觉和传统的构图模式来进行的设计。冷设计也需要灵感。这是一种经过量化了的灵感。它的特点是经过严密计算的、建立在一定秩序基础上的,冷静的,严谨的现代构成,以求异思维和反传统作为它的思想基础和出发点。它的设计过程也许是冷峻的,有时甚至显得枯燥,但设计结果却会取得热烈的、富于情趣的、充满了浪漫色彩的令人耳目一新的效果。这就是书籍装帧艺术的现代设计方法。
