When smelting each furnace of aluminum for casting, a rapid, simple, accurate and easy-to-grasp test method was developed to determine the effect of aluminum grain refinement. This new test method not only requires one-fifth of the time required for a general inspection of the grain size method, but it also provides casting and rolling mill manufacturers with a way to greatly improve the quality of their foundry production. This method and the equipment used are much simpler than the methods and equipment used to test cylinders cut from the top of hot samples or from truncated conical sections.
