直线式自动线特别适于大量连续不断的加工,这是众所共知的。另外一方面,当工件是小量或成批生产时,往往只能在半自动自动线(多工位机床)上加工,自动线上装着许多动力头,但是只有一个夹紧工件的夹具。在加工循环过程中,夹具以及和它在一起的工件从一个动力头送到另一个动力头,同时,当最后一道加工工序完成后,夹具就返回到原位,以便卸下工件。全部加工时间可以这样确定,使一个操作者能够看管几台机床。但是,设备有缺陷,当生产另外一种型式的工件时,为了更换装置,往往需要大量的时间。
