The main issue to be addressed in this paper is whether government debt worsens the distribution of income when the tax revenue collected from workers is used to pay the interest of government bonds held by the rich. To this end, the paper establishes a post-Keynesian model in which growth is determined by the aggregate demand rather than by the supply of resources between income-earning workers and capitalists earning profits and interest distribution. The analysis in this paper emphasizes the possible expansionary effect of increased government debt that may increase workers’ income. The analysis also shows that the exact impact of government debt on income inequality depends on the external environment at the time of government debt.
