On December 26th, 2013, Chu Jian, Vice Principal of Zhejiang University, was arrested by Zhejiang Provincial People’s Procuratorate for being suspected of duty crime. He was another vice principal of China’s ministerial universities that got investigated after An Xiaoyu of Sichuan University.
Chu Jian was born in Haiyan, Zhejiang in 1963. In 2005 he assumed the office of Vice Principal of Zhejiang University, assisting the Principal in personnel, retirement and school-run business.
Chu Jian has an impressive academic resume. He won the secondary prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award twice and the secondary prize of the National Award for Technological Invention once. Before getting investigated, Chu Jian, as one of the first specially invited professors of “Yangtze River Scholars Program”, already made himself into the list of academician candidates for the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
Chu Jian obtained great academic and business achievements. In 1993 Zhejiang University Industrial Automation National Program Research Center founded a company which later changed its name to ZK Group and Chu Jiang was one of the founders.
According to insiders, the investigation on Chu Jian probably has something to do with Zhe jiang University ZK Group’s tunneling assets from Haina Science & Technology Co., Ltd.
When Zhejiang University ZK Group was founded, China’s automation industry was monopolized by foreign companies. ZK Group broke their stranglehold and developed the first international standard of domestic automation industry. Haina was cofounded by Zhejiang University Enterprise Group Holdings Co. Ltd and Zhejiang Science & Technology Venture Capital. Chu Jiang was also one of the cofounders.
