台湾是我国美丽富饶的宝岛,热带亚热带果树资源极为丰富。番木瓜便是其中之一。番木瓜又名“木瓜”,“万寿瓠”,是一种栽培容易,结果早,产量高,营养丰富,经济价值较高的热带、亚热带水果。台湾自1908年开始普遍栽培,现主要集中在台湾南部、西部和东部。是一种重要的创汇果品,在港澳市场上占有一定地位。1983年总面积达20745亩,总产41577吨,平均亩产2004公斤。 我省与台湾仅一水之隔,农业气候条件与台湾相似,为了发挥我省南亚热带的优势,补充和丰富我省的果树品种资源,在省农业部门的重视下,省热作研究所通过有关渠道,已引进台湾番木瓜良种中多个进行试种,为我省发展番木瓜种植业提供新的种质资源。现把主要性状介绍如下:
