Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPARs) gamma gene has been recognized as playing an important role in the regulation of adipocyte differentiation and various metabolism (sugar, fat, energy metabolism, etc.). It is expressed in many tissues related to insulin action, such as fat, muscle and liver, and has the regulation of genes involved in the regulation of glucose production, transport, utilization and fat metabolism after activation. The PPARγ gene plays an important role in adipocyte differentiation, carbohydrate and lipid metabolism, atherosclerosis formation and inflammatory reaction, and thus is associated with the risk of developing T2DM, insulin resistance, obesity, cardiovascular diseases and hypertension. This review summarizes the research progress of the relationship between PPARγ gene structure, function and polymorphism and metabolic syndrome.
