Tumor metastasis is the main cause of death in patients with malignant solid tumors. The process of tumor metastasis is complex, including cell migration, invasion of tissues and basement membranes, evasion of immune responses, and migration to distant extremities. Since many of the cellular functions that constitute metastasis are poorly understood in terms of biochemistry, the nature of the genes involved in metastasis is not yet known.
