One item in a spending bill signed by President Barack Obama on March 26, 2013, restricts the federal government from buying information technology from companies involved in the Chinese government. In response, Shen Danyang, spokesman for the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, said that the U.S. move violates the principle of fair trade and hinders the exchanges and cooperation between the two countries in the field of hi-tech products. China strongly resents and resolutely opposes this.
