洪深同志,江苏常州市人,一八九四年十二月三十一日生。洪深同志自幼爱好文艺,在求学时代曾多次参加戏剧演出。一九一五年即开始创作剧本。一九一六年,在清华大学毕业后,去美国沃海沃州立大学学陶瓷工程。一九一九年转入哈佛大学,改学文学与戏剧。同时在波士顿声音表演学校、考柏莱剧院附设学校学“表演”、“导演”等课程。毕业后参加美国职业剧团作巡回演出。一九二二年,洪深同志回国,开始他在中国戏剧运动史上光荣的一页。这年冬天,写成反封建、反内战的成名之作“赵阎王”。次年演出,洪深同志并亲自表演。不久,他参加了戏剧协社。和欧阳予倩同志、应云卫同志等主持该社工作。导演了“泼妇”、“回家以后”、“好
