When the engine is working, the motion law of the valve lift can be changed continuously, which provides a new possibility for the research of the engine. This article summarizes the work done on the FIAT-type vehicle to achieve a variable valve train with a gas phase and valve lift. All tests on the test bench and during driving are fruitful. This innovation is especially suitable for overhead camshaft engines with 2, 3 or 4 valves per cylinder.
