Life and Creation British writer Joseph Conrad, spanning nineteen or twenty centuries, achieved the transition from the most outstanding Victorian novelist to the most accomplished modernist novelist. The frustrated “marginal man” made quite a plentiful life. His works have three points of navigation, jungle and politics. His first major work is the novel “The Dark Heart” published in 1899. Through the careful reading of the original works and the related thoughts of colonialism and postcolonial criticism, this essay makes a detailed reading of the novel and analyzes the novel’s connotation, narrative tone, symbolic image and subject implication, and confirms The novel is actually a “conclusion of absurd and barbaric anger literature.”
