水界碑水电站处于地震活跃带及山体易滑坡、易洪涝、易泥石流区域,并经历了2008年5月12日的汶川地震及2010年8月12日至14日的泥石流灾情。水界碑水电站原有技术供水方式为2台卧式离心泵从尾水间接取水后,经滤水器送至机组的发电机空冷器及轴承。该取水方式受下游尾水水质影响较大,通过业主的介绍,该种取水方式严重影响到了水电站的正常稳定运行和电站的综合经济效益。现通过技术改造,在尽量利用原有设备及布置的前提下,采用循环水系统进行供水。投入运行后,机组因水质原因停机而停机的情况不再发生,年利用小时数明显提高,经济效益显著,且机组运行稳定。
