1985年夏,由新宁县文化局主持的文物普查,分别在扶夷水上游沿岸的周家山、白面寨以及扶夷水支流大圳江下游的马屁股山等地点采集到一些新石器时代的文化遗物。1986年及1988年间,邵阳市文物工作队又会同新宁县文化馆组织田野考古调查组,先后对三处地点做了一些考古调查和小面积试掘工作,但始终未弄清文化堆积情况,只能根据一些零星资料,将这三处地点定为“新石器点”。近年来,笔者因工作需要,在对过去这些零星资料作了进一步研究整理后,又多次对白面寨等遗址进行了较深入细致的调查,
