British scientists found that heart disease is related to the lack of silicon in drinking water. Their animal experiments show that silicon plays a key role in preventing the toxicity of aluminum. Silicic acid reacts with aluminum to synthesize a compound called hydroxyaluminosilicate that does not pose a hazard to organisms. He also found that fish living in contact with acidic water containing aluminum are protected from aluminum by silicic acid, and he believes that aluminum is inhaled into the body and accumulates in the heart muscle which can lead to heart disease.
