世界卫生组织曾指出,走路是世界最佳运动之一,既简单易行,强身效果又好,不论男女老少,什么时候开始这项运动都不晚。美国心脏学会奠基人怀特博士也提出:从进化论角度看,步行是人类最好的运动。如果按正确的姿势行走,走路时,人的股三头肌、股四头肌以及腰、腹部肌肉等总共13块大的肌肉群都在动。从增强体质和免疫功能上来说,步行是一种最理想的运动方法。
