PURPOSE AND METHODS: The expressions of pRb, p16, p53 and PCNA in 50 cases of bladder transitional cell carcinoma were studied by immunohistochemistry. Results: The positive rates of pRb, p16, p53 and PCNA were 30%, 58%, 14% and 44% respectively. The expression of pRb and p16 was negatively correlated with the pathological grade of the tumor, but not with the clinical stage of the tumor. The expression of p53 and PCNA was positively correlated with the pathological grade and clinical stage of the tumor. Conclusion: Abnormal expressions of pRb, p16, p53 and PCNA play an important role in the occurrence and development of bladder transitional cell carcinoma. p53 and PCNA can be used as an important indicator to determine the degree of malignancy and prognosis of their tumors.
