为改良盐碱土,我区于1984年从吉林省引入碱茅草分别在张掖、临泽种植了5000余亩。碱茅草系禾本科碱茅属多年丛生牧草,耐盐能力是紫花首蓿、星星草、草木樨、甜菜的2～5倍;能在耕层含盐量1.087％～5.23％的盐土上生长发育形成绿色草地;营养成分高,含粗蛋白20.0％,粗脂肪3.4％,适口性强,可与紫花首蓿媲美。据测定,三年生碱茅草一般亩产鲜草约600公斤,干草321公斤,种子23.5公斤。种植碱茅三年后,土壤耕层脱盐率达77.0％,自然含水率提高10.0％,孔隙度增加6.2％,土壤容量降低0.16g/cm~3,总团聚
