世界上许多国家都有母亲节,但像美国那样有父亲节的却很少。美国的父亲节之所以能成为一个全国性的节日,主要得归功于达德夫人的热心倡导。达德夫人是美国华盛顿人。她自幼失去了母亲,兄弟姐妹六人全靠父亲一人抚养。父亲起早贪黑地工作,无微不至地关心着孩子们的成长。他的这种自我牺牲精神深深地感动了年幼的达德夫人。她长大以后,就向政府和人民发出倡议:做父亲的也应该像做母亲的那样,有一个正式的节日。达德夫人的倡议最终得到了政府的重视。1910年6月,达德夫人的出生地斯博坎市首次举行了父亲节庆祝活动。随着社会的发展,美国的离婚率越来越高,父兼母职的情况也越来越多,父亲在孩子们的心目中占据了越来越重要的位置。1927年,美国国会正式通过了一个新的节日——父亲节,时间定为每年6月的第三个星期日。
Many countries in the world have Mother’s Day, but there are very few Father’s Day like the United States. The reason why the United States’ Father’s Day can become a national holiday is mainly due to the enthusiastic advocacy of Mrs. Dade. Mrs. Dade is a Washingtonian. The father occupies an increasingly important position in the minds of the children. In 1927, the United States Congress formally passed a new festival, Father’s Day, scheduled for the third Sunday of June each year.
