The declining population of urban centers and the outward expansion of urban areas have seriously affected the city's natural environment, a common problem facing many large cities in the world, such as Montreal, Canada. Restricting the expansion of the city to the outside needs to be balanced by the attractiveness of the city center. Based on mathematical statistics and generalized induction, Sainte-Marie, one of the most popular neighborhoods in the city center of Montreal, conducted two field surveys to quantify the current attractiveness of the city center. The results show that at present, the demand for middle and high-end residential / service industries has been raised. Relevant analyzes on some variables that characterize the city suggest that people are not only “living freely” in the trade-off between attractiveness and resistance in urban centers Will "is the only choice, but to continue living in Sainte-Marie. The conclusion of this paper also argues that at present, the urban expansion through the attractiveness of urban neighborhoods still faces great challenges.
