Objective: To investigate the effects of different exercise training on endocrine function and free radical metabolism of cardiovascular system in rats. Methods: Thirty SD rats were randomly divided into control group, 90 min training group and 180 min training group. The levels of endothelin (ET), adrenomedullin (ADM), malondialdehyde (MDA) and serum superoxide dismutase (SOD) in rats after 8-week swimming training were measured. Results: Compared with 90 min training group, the content of ADM in 180 min training group decreased significantly (P <0.05); ET in 180 min training group increased significantly by 17.7% (P <0.05) than control group. (P <0.05). The content of MDA in training group at 90min was significantly lower than that in control group at 90min (P <0.05), and the MDA content at 180min training group was significantly higher than that of control group and 90min training group (all P <0.05) difference. The results showed that after moderate exercise, the ability of scavenging free radicals was enhanced and ET and ADM were moderately excreted. Exercise training with heavy load reduced the ability of the body to scavenge free radicals and imbalanced the secretion of vasoactive peptides.
