晚明作家孟称舜作为言情派作家中重要一员,其戏曲理论一方面注意突出情的因素,另一方面持情与理相统一的情理观。其以《娇红记》为代表的传奇创作有着深刻思想内涵,对其中客观存在的节义观念应作辨证认识。孟称舜这种情理观有其生活基础和思想渊源,从作家对戏曲社会功能的体认、对晚明传奇滥情创作倾向的反拨等角度来看孟称舜戏剧思想中的情理观有其独特价值和积极意义。
