李任予烈士,广东新丰籍,红军早期领导人。在他牺牲整整70年之后,家乡县城的广场才更名为任予广场。他的雕像矗立在这里,男女老少都向先烈致以崇敬的目光。几十年来默默无闻的名字,拂去历史的尘土,又焕发出夺目的光芒。投身革命即为家李任予1903年5月出生于新丰县城东村农家,20年代初在广州甲种工业学校读书时,因家贫辍学,转而在广州从事工会工作,期间加入了中国共产党。1927年蒋介石发动“四一二”反革命政变,李任予离开广州市到北江地区领导组织农民运动。1927年11月参加了广州起义。起义失败后,在福建西部地区领导农民开展武装斗争并参加了中共福建省委的领导工作。1929年4月,担任中共闽西特委委员、军委主席,成为闽西农民斗争的主要领导人之一。1929年6月,毛泽东、朱德、陈毅率领中国工农
