We have accumulated a great deal of data that is worth considering about the distribution of boron in rocks of all kinds, including those that are economically valuable for the mineralization of boron. Boron content in limestone ranges from 0.5 to 300 ppm, boron content in dolomites ranges from 5 to 700 ppm, and boron is predominantly in the form of a muddy mixture or finely divided boron mineral. The more chemically pure, coarse-grained calcite is generally boron-free, with boron present in excess of at least a few tenths of a ppm. Boron content in metamorphic rocks is less affected by alteration than in similar rocks. Studies of the spatial distribution and local ray (x) analysis of minerals with and without magnesia and calcareous skarn for boron mineralization show that calcite is measured within the limits of analytical sensitivity (a few ppm) The lack of boron in the structure.
