朱砂叶螨的表皮由上表皮、外表皮、内表皮和皮细胞层组成,上表皮由里向外可分为电子致密层、角质精层、蜡层和护蜡层,厚度为0.053μm;原表皮分为外表皮和内表皮两层,外表皮厚0.145μm,内表皮厚0.684μm;外表皮向外延伸形成脊和叶,脊高0.815μm,宽0.105μm,脊距1.105μm;皮细胞层平均厚度为0.793μm。蜕皮时,首先上表皮物质沉积,形成片层结构;然后皮细胞分化,脊状突起渐出现;之后,皮细胞物质积累,脊状突起显著;最后,内表皮渐渐蜕去,被溶解。
