针对国内旧城发展中存在的历史空间破败,文化的缺失,特色的丧失等问题,从城市设计角度提出旧城复兴,并以武汉武昌旧城城市设计为例,从城市的经济、社会、文化、城市意象、规划、历史建筑保护和建筑设计等方面统筹考虑,采取综合的措施,把保护与建设协调起来,把文物古迹、历史地段、城市的传统格局、历史风貌、空间秩序以及历史文化传统等,从城市是一个大系统的观点出发,进行高层次的保护和更新.
