Since early August, the newly sworn Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has been “burning fire” on Iran’s nuclear issue one after another. It decisively rejected the package proposal put forward by the EU and then took the risk of restarting its uranium conversion program . What is even more disturbing to Western society is that on 15 August, the Iranian government formally appointed Ali Larijani to replace Hassan Rouhani, the moderate, as the country’s top NSC secretary and the new Iranian chief nuclear issue Negotiator. Larijani, a well-known ultra-conservative in Iran, knows both the military and the civilians, and has always held a tough stance on the nuclear issue. The Iranian nuclear issue has always been complicated and volatile. In recent years, the Iranian nuclear issue has become a hot phenomenon and has become a serious risk to regional security. Now, the negotiations around this issue have faltered, and Iran has again put hardy Larijani on the stage. In response, some U.S. and European media commented in a pessimistic tone: “He will tighten the nerves of the world.”
