北宋散文家周敦颐的代表作《爱莲说》曾提到他对于莲花的印象,他以“莲之出淤泥而不染,濯清涟而不妖,中通外直,不蔓不枝,香远益清,亭亭静植,可远观而不可亵玩焉。”为大众描绘出一副超凡脱俗的莲花印象,而这样的印象也随着诗歌广为流传,直到今日,当人们提及莲花的时候,仍不忘它不落俗套的形象,并以莲花的形象装饰空间,希望以它高尚的品格作为对照,来约束自我品性,远离世俗的烦扰。
