  The first American music
The first Europeans came to America in 1492 with Christopher Columbus. Since that time, people have come to America from all over the world, from countries including Europe, Africa and Asia, and they have brought their music with them. This mixing of people and music has created American music. Every nation has a national song, like the American song “The Star-Spangled Banner (星条旗之歌)”. In the U.S., high schools and colleges have school songs, too. Music is a part of the history of America. It expresses the problems and feelings of its people. As the years pass, music grows and changes.
Native Americans lived in America before Columbus arrived. They had songs for many occasions, and they used drums and other musical instruments. Dancing and music was an important part of their life and their religion. You can still hear Native American music and see dancing at special festivals.
The first British people who came to America were very religious. They came for religious freedom. Their songs were simple and they did not use musical instruments in church. To bring the country people together in a large group, these preachers (传道者) held “camp meetings”. These religious meetings were held in big tents. Sometimes thousands of people went to hear the preachers. Camp meetings often went on for several days. Popular religious songs were sung and the music was very lively. People clapped their hands and tapped their feet to the music. The first camp meeting was held in 1800, and they are still held today. Many pop stars, like Elvis Presley, for example, first learned to sing and to love music at these meetings.
  40. Since the 15th century, __________have come to America.
  A. Asians, Europeans and Africans
  B. the Plains Indians, Polynesians and Egyptians
  C. Japanese, Europeans and Chinese
  D. Germans, Africans and Native American Indians
  41. We can learn from the passage that __________ .
  A. American music has changed modern science in the US
  B. Native American music can never be heard any more in modern society
  C. the first British people arrived in America for religious reasons
  D. American music was created simply from its native music.
  42. Which of the following statements is true according to the passage?
  A. American music was created to help people understand Americans, history and culture.
  B. The first British arriving in US brought their music with them, using musical instruments.
  C. All early music in America came from church music.
  D. American music has come from all over the world, beginning with the arrival of Columbus.
  43. Based on the passage, “camp meetings” were held mainly because __________ .
  A. Americans liked drinking and dancing very much
  B. people wanted to relax
  C. the preachers wanted to teach people to sing religious songs
  D. the preachers wanted to make the country people gather in a large group

Ready or not, 3D TV is here. Sets from Samsung and Panasonic are already arriving in U.S. stories, and Sony, LG, and others will join the competition in the coming months. Despite 3Ds success in movie theaters, it will be a while before we know whether it turns out to be must-have home technology or just a fashion.
Do I have to wear the glasses? Yes, whenever you watch 3D content. And you can only use glasses made for your particular TV brand. The sets work by sending signals that control shutters (遮光器) in the glasses, and theres no standard yet for how that happens.
How big a screen do I want? Even more than with plain old high-definition TV, you dont want to sit too close. A rule of thumb is one-third the distance from which youll view the set—say, a 50-inch screen if youll be sitting 12 feet away. You also dont want to sit too far to the side because the signal between the set and the glasses may drop.
What will I watch? Make sure you like the picture for much else. ESPN is launching a 3D sports service in June, and satellite and cable providers have plans to add content. Youll want one of the new generation of 3D Blue-ray players; unlike the glasses, you wont have to buy the same brand of player as your TV.
How much will it cost? Lots. B&H is selling a 55-inch Samsung set with two pairs of glasses for $2969. Add $250 to $400 for the blue-ray; extra glasses will run $150 to $200 a pair. The smartest thing to do right now is to wait and see how 3D comes to an end. The second smartest is to make sure that your electronics store has a good return policy.

  A. 15 feet.B. 18 feet.

  46. What kind of TV channel is ESPN?
  A. An art channel.B. A sports channel.
  C. A movie channelD. A news channel.
  47. The writers attitude towards 3D TV is __________ .

If you are to study in Australia, you need to consider several factors. Everyone has different opinions about where the best place is to live in. Also, the best places for living are not always home to the best schools or specialties. Finally, different schools specialize in different areas of study. Australian National University, for example, is a great school for computer science and technology-related fields of study. However, if you want to study oceanography (海洋学), your interests may be better served by attending school in a place that is on the coastline or near the ocean.
Now I am sure that you know which schools are considered the best in the country. So I will tell you about which states I believe are the best to live in. The climate of Australia is significantly influenced by ocean currents, including the Indian Ocean Dipole (偶极子) and the El Nino (厄尔尼诺)—Southern Oscillation (摆动), which is connected with periodic drought, and the seasonal tropical (热带) low pressure system that produces cyclones (气旋) in northern Australia. Much of the northern part of the country has a tropical summer rainfall climate. The southwest corner of the country has a Mediterranean (地中海) climate. Just under three quarters of Australia lies within a desert or semi-arid zone(半干旱地带). As for me, I enjoyed the time I spent in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane and these states have great history and culture. The weather is not as perfect as in the east coast, but it is quite nice. In addition, there are many good universities in Australia.
Also, you need to think about your likes and dislikes and then research the various states. Approximately, 77% of the Australians live in the mainlands east coast. Open space, nature and peace and quiet? Then you probably should stay away from Australias large cities. Are you interested in government? Then Canberra is the only place for you, which is the political, cultural and economical centre of the country. Whatever you decide, put some thought into it. The place you live could be the difference between a great study-abroad experience and a state of great suffering on earth.

  书面表达
  One possible version
In order to carry out “Five stringent regulations” and push ahead with quality-oriented education, our school has made the following decisions:
  (1) School hours run Monday through Friday, from 8:00 am. to 4:50 pm.
  (2) Homework is limited to one and a half hours.
This decision, which comes into force this term, has caused a heated argument.
Most of the teachers think this decision is very useful in developing students ability to learn by themselves. However, some of them are worried that part of the students cant make the best of their spare time after school.
Parents have also expressed their views. Many support this decision, thinking that reducing a learning load helps keep their children physically and mentally healthy, while some parents doubt if their children can be admitted to universities in the fierce competition.
We students are in favour of this decision, for we will have more time to study what we want, take part in different kinds of activities, and build up our characters. But some of us are afraid of being forced to attend various training classes by our parents.
